Lake House of Prayer sits on a hill overlooking Lake Victoria in Mwanza — quiet, unhurried, and set apart from the noise of daily life.

We are a Catholic retreat house in the Ignatian tradition, open to individuals and groups seeking time for prayer, reflection, and rest. Whether you come for a day or several nights, what you find here is the same: silence held carefully, simple hospitality, and space to be still.

Stillness by the Lake

A setting that does half the work. The grounds overlook Lake Victoria, landscaped for quiet — gardens, open sky, and the kind of view that slows your breathing.

Guided or Personal, Your Choice

You can come with a question, a burden, or simply an emptiness. Our spiritual directors are trained listeners, available in Swahili and English, for as much or as little guidance as you need.

Simple Rooms, Honest Meals

Accommodation is comfortable and uncluttered. Meals are locally sourced, nutritious, and served on a fixed schedule — so you don’t have to think about anything except being here.
