Machame Route
Machame approaches from the south before traversing beneath Kibo and joining the summit approach from Barafu. The trail changes constantly: rainforest, moorland, high alpine desert and the exposed upper mountain.
It is one of Kilimanjaro’s more popular routes, so you should not choose Machame expecting solitude. Choose it for the scenery, the varied trail and a well-established acclimatisation profile.
Best for: climbers who want a scenic route, are comfortable camping and want more acclimatisation time than the shortest Marangu itinerary allows.Consider another route if: avoiding busier trails matters more to you than scenery.
