Uraia Wetu project

Volunteer at at Nelico

In the tapestry of democratic governance, NELICO’s Uraia Wetu project emerges as a catalyst for community empowerment and civic engagement, fostering a vibrant dialogue between social organizations and the government. With a mission to cultivate active citizenship and align community efforts with governmental laws and policies, our project serves as a beacon of accountability and collaboration across six regions in the lake zone.

Central to our endeavor is the promotion of adherence to governmental laws and policies, recognizing their pivotal role in legitimizing the activities of social organizations. Through advocacy and education, we empower these organizations to navigate the legal landscape, ensuring their activities align with regulatory frameworks while advocating for reforms where necessary.

Crucially, our project transcends compliance to champion proactive change. Recognizing that not all governmental laws and policies are conducive to the flourishing of civil society, we unite social organizations under a common voice, advocating for legislative reforms that reflect the needs and aspirations of the communities they serve. By amplifying collective voices, we compel the government to listen and respond to the demands of its citizens.

At the heart of our engagement strategy lie platforms for dialogue and reflection. Biannual directors’ forums provide a space for open dialogue, where challenges and opportunities encountered by social organizations are discussed, fostering a culture of collaboration and mutual support. Moreover, reflection meetings with implementers facilitate introspection and refinement of implementation strategies, ensuring that efforts are responsive to evolving needs and contexts.

As we navigate the intricacies of democratic governance, we do so with a steadfast commitment to fostering a culture of active citizenship and collaboration. Join us as we continue to champion the cause of community empowerment, forging pathways to a future where citizens and governments work hand in hand to build inclusive and prosperous societies.
